Hong Kong Style Fish Shumai (siu mai) 港式魚肉燒賣
When talk about Cantonese Dim Sum, I am sure you have tried Shumai (siu mai). The small yellow wrapper with pork and shrimps. So Yummy!
However, this fish siu mai is different, it wrapped with fish (of course!) It is one of the most popular Hong Kong street food. In UK, I can’t find fish siu mai, so I better make it myself. You can choose whatever fish you like, I am lazy, so I used the frozen fish fillet. They are so easy to make and it taste just like like Hong Kong!
Mango Pomelo Sago Pudding 楊枝甘露
Very popular Hong Kong dessert – Mango Pomelo Sago Pudding, I am not sure if it called pudding, as it is not pudding, but it also thicker than soup…anyway, it is a very delicious dessert.
It made of mango puree, coconut cream, evaporated milk (that you can use milk instead, but it tastes different) and then add some mango chunks and pomelo. It is kind of healthy dessert, and super easy to make. Try and hope you will love it!
Almond Jelly 杏仁豆腐
When I was kid, every time we went to Chinese restaurant to have dim sum, I always looking forward to have the dessert. Almond Jelly is one of my favourite! They served with a bowl of canned mixed fruit with a cocktail umbrella on top. I don’t know why it called Almond Tofu in Chinese tho, maybe because it looks like tofu?!
Anyway, this classic dessert is so easy to make and it is perfect to serve at party!
Banana Mochi Rolls 懷舊香蕉糕
These banana mochi rolls are one of my childhood favourite snack. I remember when I was kid, every time I walked pass the snack shop, I must buy some of these mochi rolls. Yes they are called banana rolls but are not made of banana, just the flavouring. They are so chewy and just delicious!
Cantonese Shrimp & Pork Dumplings/ Wontons 港式鮮蝦豬肉雲吞
This is one of the most classic, popular and delicious Hong Kong food – Shrimp dumplings (wontons). You can find many Chinese noodles shops in Hong Kong that sell these shrimp wontons with noodles. They are so delicious and nowhere you can find better wontons but Hong Kong.
Every household has their own wontons recipe, so I share mine that is actually my mum’s recipe. I love to sit there and wrap a lot of wontons (maybe 60 pieces) , then I can freeze it for my quick meal. So easy to make, add some black fungus can give an extra texture. Hope you enjoy it too!
Hong Kong-Style Sponge Cake 港式傳統雞蛋糕
This is definitely my favourite Hong Kong-style cake since when I was kid. I still love it and must buy it every time when I back to Hong Kong. These are very traditional old-fashioned bakery style cakes, very rich and eggy flavour, sometimes if you are lucky, you can find the lotus or red bean fillings inside. They are just sooooo delicious!
You cannot always find it in bakery shops these days, people like those fancy western bread and cakes. But for me, some traditional food must continue being appreciated. This is my easy but yummy recipe, hope you love it too!
Baked Sago Pudding 焗西米布甸
You can always find sago in Asian dessert, we like to put the sago in milk or coconut milk as a sweet soup. Or put inside a jelly or pudding. When I was young, I can always find this sago pudding in Chinese restaurant during yum cha, it is one of the popular dim sum/ dessert. But now it is not easy to find this old-fashion dessert.
Stir-fried Beef Macaroni 乾炒牛通
Stir-fried beef noodles is one of the classic local Hong Kong dishes. Super easy to make and just need soy sauce to make the sauce. It might sounds not too attractive but trust me, once you try it, you will LOOOOOVE it!
Hong Kong-Style Western Fried Rice 港式西炒飯
One of the classic Hong Kong Cha-Chann-Tang (local restaurants) style fried rice. Funny name that it called Western Fried Rice, with western sausage and ketchup. It is very delicious !
